So, God invested all of mankind in Adam, including giving him free will, but when Adam sinned in the garden of Eden it caused all of mankind to become disconnected from God. Since he (Adam) represented all of mankind, all (mankind) came under the dominion of Satan ,therefore spiritually separating us from God (spiritual death)
.... but, thank God for a back-up plan, and how much He loves us. Even though Adam disobeyed, He (God) sent His son Jesus to earth that mankind (me & you) could enjoy the Father-child relationship that exsisted b4 Adam's sin. However He gave us a choice (free will) to except His son and be reconnected (spiritually alive) or keep Satan as your spiritual head (spiritually dead). Jesus says this in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me".
So, by that verse one can see that Jesus is God's only way for mankind (me & you) to become spiritually alive, simply by accepting His son Jesus. When a person does this (accept Jesus) this person has experienced the new birth. He or she is now alive to God in Christ Jesus (1Corinthians 15:22), born again (John 3:3), saved (Romans 10:9-10), a child of God (John 1:12), or a Christian (1Peter4:16).
The opposite of saved, of course is lost. But 2Peter 3:9 says that God is "not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance ". Now that's love!!!!!!
